ISLAMABAD – The services of ATMs [Automated Teller Machine] are likely to face disruption in Pakistan due to dispute over renewal of Long-Distance International license, said a warning by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The authority in a document revealed non-renewal of the license could affect 50 percent of mobile traffic and 10% of internet traffic in the South Asian country, which is already facing slow mobile internet and disruption in social media apps.

The document also states that 40% of ATMs across the country are likely to stop working while several mobile towers may go offline if the license is not renewed.

Reports said there is a delay in renewal of license due to a despite between telecom companies and the Ministry of Information Technology over the payment of dues.

Furthermore, licenses for three to four LDI companies have already expired, and some are set to expire in coming months. However, companies have moved the court to keep their services operational for consumers.
