ADELAIDE – Pakistan’s top seed Ashab Irfan on Saturday lifted the South Australian Open Squash Championship title with a commanding straight-sets victory over Malaysia’s Duncan Lee in the final held in Adelaide.

Irfan, who entered the tournament as the top seed, dominated the championship match without dropping a single game. The final scoreline read 11-8, 12-10 and 11-9 which showed his consistent performance and control throughout the contest.

The South Australian Open, part of the PSA (Professional Squash Association) circuit, attracted players from various countries and carried a total prize purse of $9,000.

Ashab Irfan’s triumph adds another accolade to Pakistan’s squash legacy and highlights the country’s emerging talent on the international stage.

Earlier, Ashab Irfan stormed into the final of the South Australian Open Squash Championship with a commanding straight-set win over compatriot Hamza Khan in the semifinals.

Ashab, the tournament’s top seed, showcased his dominance with a powerful performance as he defeated Hamza 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. His composed and tactical gameplay reflected his growing maturity on the international squash stage.

In earlier rounds, Ashab had also secured a straight-sets victory against Leo Chung of Hong Kong, winning 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 to book his place in the semifinals.

Hamza Khan, seeded sixth, made an impressive run in the tournament. In the second round, he battled back after dropping the first game against Egypt’s Shady Sherbiny, eventually winning 5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4. His performance highlighted his resilience and adaptability under pressure.

However, Hamza’s campaign came to an end in the semifinals as Ashab’s superior form and consistency secured him a place in the championship final.
