Azaan Jabbar, a lesser-known name, has surfaced online as the man prepares to marry Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s youngest daughter, Mahnoor Safdar, in a private ceremony in Lahore. But who exactly is the man about to become part of one of Pakistan’s most prominent political families?
Azaan Jabbar
Azaan Jabbar is the son of Jabbar Khalid, a businessman and industrialist associated with Pakistan’s flour milling sector. While Azaan himself has largely stayed away from the media spotlight, his family’s business background has placed him among the notable names linked to Mahnoor Safdar’s wedding.
Azaan and Mahnoor also share an educational connection. Both reportedly studied at SOAS University of London, where they pursued their higher education. Beyond these details, little has been publicly disclosed about Azaan’s personal or professional life, making his profile something of a mystery as news of the marriage spreads.
London classrooms?
The reported connection between Azaan and Mahnoor goes beyond their family backgrounds. Both are said to have studied at SOAS University of London, while Mahnoor recently completed her degree there. Maryam Nawaz travelled to London earlier this month to attend her daughter’s graduation, describing the occasion as a particularly proud moment for the family.
Just days later, attention shifted from graduation celebrations to another major milestone in Mahnoor’s life, her wedding.
Low-key wedding for high-profile family
Mahnoor and Azaan’s nikah is scheduled for 5pm on September 12 at Jati Umra, the Sharif family residence near Lahore.
Despite the political prominence of the bride’s family, the ceremony is being kept private, with close relatives and selected family friends expected to attend. Reports have also indicated that around 100 guests could be present.
The occasion has nevertheless drawn considerable attention because of the families involved.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif and other members of the Sharif family are among those reported to be attending the ceremony.
Mahnoor Safdar
Mahnoor is the youngest of Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd.) Muhammad Safdar’s three children and has generally remained away from the public spotlight.
Her marriage follows the wedding of her only brother, Junaid Safdar, who married Shanzeh Ali Rohale in January. Junaid’s wedding featured several elaborate celebrations, including a mehndi, baraat and valima at the Jati Umra estate. Mahnoor’s wedding, by contrast, is expected to remain much more intimate.
Details about any reception, baraat or further wedding functions have not been officially disclosed, keeping the spotlight firmly on today’s private nikah.
