ISLAMABAD – Sohail Chaudhary has been picked as new Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police while current Police Chief Ali Nasir Rizvi has been transferred from his post and appointed as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The major reshuffle involves key appointments in the federal capital’s police and cybercrime investigation setup. Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was serving as IG Islamabad, will now take charge as DG NCCIA, while Sohail Chaudhary is set to assume the position of IG Islamabad.

Chaudhry, a BS-20 Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officer, named new top cop in capital amid major reshuffle of senior police officers. A former Pakistan Army captain, Chaudhry has built a reputation as a tough field officer through key assignments in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan, as well as important roles in Punjab’s Counter Terrorism Department.

His career includes serving as CTO Lahore, CPO Faisalabad, DIG Operations Lahore, DIG CTD Punjab and RPO Multan. His aggressive approach toward crime and emphasis on discipline have earned him a reputation as a hard-line officer, with some local reports describing him as “dabbang.”

His profile gained national attention when he became DIG Operations Lahore in 2021 following the high-profile Minar-e-Pakistan harassment case. He later served as DIG CTD Punjab before being transferred out of the province and posted as OSD.

Now, Chaudhry could be heading to Islamabad at a crucial time, with the capital police undergoing major modernization, including a new AI-enabled command and control system designed to strengthen real-time monitoring and response.
