Inam Butt Likely To Face Two Month Ban After Positive Doping Test

LAHORE – National wrestler Inam Butt is likely to face a two-month ban after his doping test returned positive for a prohibited substance during the Asian Beach Games in China, a local private TV reported while citing sources.

The sources said that Butt told authorities that he had used the substance for medical treatment of an eye condition and not to enhance his strength or improve his performance in competition.

Sources said the explanation has been accepted, prompting authorities to recommend a two-month suspension for the wrestler. The ban is expected to be effective from April.

Butt is also likely to lose the silver medal he won at the Asian Beach Games as a result of the positive test.

The wrestler will, however, be eligible to return to competitive sporting activities after completing the proposed two-month suspension.

According to the sources, Butt had used the medication for his eyesight but did not inform the relevant authorities about its use before undergoing the doping test.

The doping sample was collected during the Asian Beach Games held in China, where Butt competed for Pakistan.

The final decision regarding the suspension and medal will be taken by the relevant sports and anti-doping authorities.
