AFTER dissolving the PTI’s organisational structure over party’s dismal performance in the recently local government polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his capacity as party Chairman has named new office bearers at central and provincial levels reviving the eight year old party structure.

The appointment of Asad Umar as party’s central secretary general once again shows the trust and confidence that Prime Minister Imran Khan has on him.

After PM Khan, Asad Umar is the face of PTI and he has the capability and ability to take forward the party in right direction.

Undoubtedly, he has proved himself as a doer whenever and wherever he was entrusted with a responsibility.

Before commenting on his performance as head of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) that has so far successfully tackled Covid-19, it is important to understand the change Asad Umar has also brought within his own ministry.

The usual practice is to disburse twenty percent of the annual PSDP in the first three months of the year, thirty percent in the second and third quarter and twenty percent in the fourth quarter.

There are also instances where development funds remain unutilised. However under Asad Umar, the Ministry of Planning and Development has accelerated the pace of authorisation of the development funds for various projects.

Only in the first three months of current fiscal year, the Ministry of Planning and Development reportedly authorised the release of Rs 392.

686 billion, which is forty three percent of total budgeted amount for the year.Asad Umar is also the person behind packages announced for different regions including interior Sindh, Karachi and Southern Balochistan.

At present the development activity can be seen in the whole country including the federal capital where a series of projects especially that of road infrastructure are in progress which will go a long way in addressing traffic congestion on roads of capital as well as further improving its landscape.

He has proved his worth as an effective member of the cabinet but his new responsibility of being secretary general of PTI is more challenging now.

Apart from preparing the party for upcoming local government elections, he will also have to keep an eye on future general elections that are to be held in less than two years time.

He will have to firm up a strategy after consultations within the party to revive the spirit of 2018 elections and stand a better chance in the 2023 polls.

We are confident that Asad Umar has the initiative to live up to the expectations of party chairman.
