Amna Baloch appointed Pakistan’s new foreign secretary

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has appointed Amna Baloch, a Grade-22 officer of Foreign Service of Pakistan, as Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Amna Baloch, who was previously posted as Ambassador to European Union in Belgium, will assume charge of the new post on September 11.

He will replace outgoing Foreign Secretary Muhammad Cyrus Sajjad Qazi, who is retiring on September 10.

Cyrus Sajjad has been posted as a member of Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

Meanwhile, Khaliq-ur-Rahman, a Grade-20 officer of the Secretariat Group, has been appointed as Joint Secretary Ministry of Industry and Production.

Who is Amna Baloch?

Born in 1966, she holds a degree of Master in History. Baloch joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1991 and has been served as various posts.

She remained on deputation with Prime Minister’s Office (Public) as Joint Secretary from February 2018 to August 2018.

She also served as Additional Secretary in Foreign Minister’s Office from September 2018 to June 2019. Baloch assumed charge of the post of High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia on 19 August 2019.

She is married to Zulfiqar Ali Khan and has two daughters.
