LAHORE – Aitchison College Principal Michael A. Thomson on Monday tendered his resignation amidst discord with the Punjab Governor regarding the exemption of fines for children of a federal minister.
The latest reports suggested that Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman allegedly requested the waiver of fines for the minister’s children, prompting Thomson to refute the demand and step down from his role.
In his resignation letter, Thomson emphasized the importance of maintaining impartiality and integrity in educational institutions, condemning any hint of nepotism or political interference. He expressed frustration over perceived biased actions from the Governor House, which he believes have compromised the college’s governance and reputation.
Thomson said that institutions operating with such disregard for principles are unsustainable. Citing “extremely poor governance,” he announced his resignation effective April 1st and declared his decision to abstain from involvement in future admissions.
