PESHAWAR – Aimal Wali Khan has been elected unopposed as Awami National Party’s (ANP) central president, replacing his father Asfandyar Wali.
ANP president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter was elected unopposed as central president as no other candidate submitted nomination papers at the general council meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Iftikhar Hussain at Bacha Khan Centre in Peshawar on Sunday. Aimal Khan’s name was suggested by Haider Hoti.
The outgoing ANP president has been away from active politics for quite some time and did not participate in the February 8 general elections.
Last day, ANP central spokesperson Zahid Khan also resigned from his position and announced staying away from intra-party elections.
As per the insiders, Zahid Khan has differences with the ANP leadership. He distanced himself from the party affairs despite pursuance from Aimal Wali Khan.
