Administrator Laiq Ahmed has said that under the annual development program, these projects will be completed in the same year on which 70 to 80 percent work has been done, including road patch work, supply of street lights, bridges and flyovers. Measures will be taken on priority basis to keep the road in good condition and to maintain the flow of traffic on KMC roads. He was addressing a meeting of Works Department. Director General Works Shabiha Al Hassan Zaidi, Financial Advisor Afaq Saeed, Chief Engineers of all districts, Heads of Electrical and Mechanical Departments were also present in the meeting. Laiq Ahmed said Works Department will take pictures on a daily basis of the areas in which the development work will be carried out and submit the report to the Administrative Secretariat. The Administrator directed to submit a comprehensive report of 702 schemes in Karachi under the Annual Development Program and to complete the projects which can be completed immediately at low cost on priority basis so that the citizens can get relief, adding that the existing infrastructure of Karachi should be kept in good condition. He said that new projects should be started and they should be in an incomplete form. He said that there is a lot of work to be done for the construction and repair of roads in the city. He said that full attention should be paid to the maintenance of roads and to keep all the highways of KMC lit at night, the accuracy and maintenance of street lights should be done regularly and no negligence should be taken in this regard. “One of my priorities is to keep the existing infrastructure in good condition and start new development projects if necessary,” he said, adding that KMC’s financial problems would be resolved and such resources would be provided. Earnings will be sought to move the company towards financial stability, he said, adding that all KMC employees who own government houses and quarters and are using electricity for free should be eliminated immediately. And they should be provided with separate meters so that they can pay their electricity bills themselves. The Director General Works briefed about the Works Department and said that the road from SM Tawfiq Road, Shahra-e-Pakistan, Liaquatabad No. 10 to Sohrab Goth has been constructed recently while expansion joints have also been replaced at 3 flyovers.
