DUBAI – United Arab Emirates is introducing new marriage rule that could save lives with Genetic Testing and could reveal shocking secrets about your health.
Authorities in Gulf nation will implement key genetic testing for all residents looking to tie the knot soon, from the start of 2025 amid part of country’s premarital screening program.
The new legislation now required premarital medical exams for both citizens and residents, but made genetic testing optional. Emirates Genome Council made the decision in annual meetings to identify over 500 genetic mutations linked to hereditary conditions.
With new testing in place, authorities are looking to rule out serious medical issues like muscular atrophy, hearing loss, cardiomyopathy, genetic epilepsy, fibrosis, and other serious disorders.
By finding these conditions early, the initiative seeks to prevent the spread of genetic disorders and support timely medical interventions. Ministry of Health and Prevention said the program isa significant leap forward in healthcare to improve quality of life, and to build a national genetic database, allowing for more effective management of genetic health issues.
Authorities are now looking to work with medical professionals, experts, and stakeholders to ensure program’s success, with necessary infrastructure and resources already in place through the National Genome Strategy.
