ISLAMABAD – Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced the coldest day of winter as the mercury dropped to the freezing point on Monday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the prevailing cold wave to persist across Pakistan till December 14.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. Under these conditions, cold wave will likely prevail in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Snowfall is likely in hilly areas. Frost (in patches) is expected in Islamabad, plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Upper Punjab during morning hours. Shallow fog is expected at few places in South Punjab and Upper Sindh during morning hours.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 01°C below freezing point to 01°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 01°C below freezing point to 01°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, cold wave prevailed over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Hilly areas received significant snowfall.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 13°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gupis was recorded at -07°C, Skardu, Kalat -05°C, Quetta, Astore, Malam Jabba -04°C, and Dir and Bagrot at -02°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature dropped to the freezing point (0°C). Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 55 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature dropped to the freezing point (0°C). Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 27 per cent.
