Lahore, Punjab weather update; rain, hailstorm likely from March 11

LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted significant rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms for Lahore and parts of Punjab from March 11 to March 13.

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on March 09 (Saturday). It will extend upper parts of Pakistan on March 11 (Monday). Another westerly wave will enter Pakistan on March 12 (Tuesday).

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls are expected in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali and Bhakkar from March 11 (evening/night) to March 14. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are also expected in Multan, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar on March 13. Isolated hailstorms are also likely during this period.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy rains with isolated heavy snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Murree and Galyat on March 13 and March 14. Wind-thunderstorm/hailstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily, while farmers are advised to remain cautious about their crops.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in Murree and Galyat during the period.

Murree remained the coldest place in the province where the temperature dropped to freezing point. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 48 per cent.

In Lahore, minimum temperature was recorded at 12 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 83 per cent.
