The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani, received the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the situation in the Islamic world and some current regional and international issues, particularly hate speech and the phenomenon of Islamophobia, and the OIC role in promoting joint Islamic action.
Al-Sudani also appreciated the OIC position in responding quickly to the call of Iraq and Saudi Arabia to hold a meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers of Islamic States to discuss the crime of burning copies of Al-Mushaf Ashariff.
The Secretary-General reviewed the OIC efforts in dealing with the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia and the crimes of burning copies of the Al-Mushaf Ashariff, and the OIC initiatives in this regard, stressing the need to support the OIC efforts to address this phenomenon.
The Iraqi Prime Minister highlighted his government’s executive steps in preparing a draft bill against hatred, which Iraq would adopt and submit to international organizations and forums.
Taha praised the important role played by the Republic of Iraq in supporting the OIC in pursuit of its objectives aimed at strengthening ties of Islamic solidarity among the OIC Member States and their peoples in various parts of the Islamic world.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, HisseinBrahimTaha, met in Baghdad, Fuad Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.
The Secretary-General praised the active role played by the Republic of Iraq, and its prominent role in addressing the crime of burning copies of Al-MushafAshariff and calling for an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers on this issue and the important Resolution issued by the meeting.
The Secretary-General also briefed the Minister on issues high on the OIC agenda, foremost of which is the phenomenon of Islamophobia.
The Minister stressed the need to stand firm and put in place the appropriate mechanism to confront and prevent the phenomenon of Islamophobia with force and firmness.
The two sides also discussed bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in all fields.—PR
