Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahanian Gardezi has said that the Punjab government has provided subsidy facility and incentives to farmers under the National Plan to increase wheat production per acre to increase the area under wheat and increase production.
And I am happy to say that due to the farmer friendly policies of the government and the hard work of the farmers, last year the wheat crop was planted on 16.4 million acres in Punjab province and for the first time in history the production was 29 million metric tons.
This year, the target for wheat cultivation in Punjab has been set at 16.7 million acres. He expressed these views while addressing the participants of the farmers’ conference held at Mandi Bahauddin.
The Agriculture Minister further said that the present government under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Khan Bazdar is taking steps to address the shortage of agricultural commodities and ensure food security at the national level.
Under the Agricultural Emergency Program, mega projects worth Rs. 300 billion are being implemented which will not only increase the yield per acre of crops but also help in alleviating the nutrient deficiencies, he added.
We are happy that wheat was cultivated on an area of 344,000 acres in Mandi Bahauddin which yielded 394,000 tons and the farmer brothers are instructed to follow the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture for proper production of wheat.
He emphasized on the use and use of certified seeds and directed to cultivate maximum area of wheat and complete the cultivation of wheat from November 1 to December 10.
Further increase in yield per acre is essential to make the wheat crop more profitable. This year, 1 million bags of approved varieties of wheat are being provided at a subsidy of Rs.
1,200 per bag and seeds of approved varieties of wheat are being sown on a total area of 10 million acres. Farmers’ Day is being organized.
He further said that the National Program for Increasing Wheat Production per Acre with a significant amount of Rs. More than Rs. 1 billion in modern agricultural machinery and other agricultural inputs are being provided on subsidy.
In addition, Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahanian Gardezi distributed farmer cards among farmers Has launched a revolutionary program through which all the subsidies are being transferred directly to the farmers ‘accounts in the form of cash transfers and the provincial agriculture minister appealed to the farmers to complete the registration of farmers’ cards as soon as possible.
With the transfer of subsidy directly to their account, farmers can purchase agricultural inputs in a timely manner to ensure production targets of important crops.
