Pakistan Olympic Association has formed a five member probe committee to investigate thoroughly the case of three athletes tested positive during the 13th South Asian Games Nepal last year but surprisingly no representative of the athletics federation of Pakistan (AFP) have been included in the committee. POA executive committee on 8th of August has decided to form a committee.
According to the notification of Pakistan Olympic Association Pakistan Handball Federation President Muhammad Shafiq has been appointed as the Convener of the committee while executive vice president national rifle association of Pakistan Javaid Shamshad Lodhi, Former athlete Dr. Meesaq Rizvi, member POA medical commission Dr. Lubna Sabtain and president swimming federation Majid Waseem will be its member.
The probe committee will ascertains the awareness level of athletes about the doping controls and use of medicine, measures to enhance doping controls and procedures as per WADA code, examine in depth dope control measures adopted by national sports federations.
The committee will also ascertain why internal doping control system established by AFP were breached, exact number of dope tests held by AFP in last three years. To fix responsibility upon the persons involved if any except athletes banned by the doping organization of 13th South Asian Games. The POA advised committee to finalize its finding within thirty days.
Few days ago a letter under the directives of minister for IPC Dr. Fehmida Mirza has written a letter in which all the sports federations were asked to submit details of the measures taken to discourage the menace.
POA surprisingly have not included any member of the athletics federation of Pakistan into the probe committee who is considering being a strong opposition of the current POA regime.
