ISLAMABAD – At least eighteen individuals lost their lives in Punjab and Balochistan due to heavy lightning strikes, data shared by Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) shows.
In Punjab, over a dozen people were killed, while several casualties were reported from Balochistan where a man and two children lost life due to lightning strikes.
Amid the new extreme weather conditions, more than 15 houses in Pishin suffered damages, while the affected individuals were relocated to safer places.
In Rahim Yar Khan, six people died in lightning strikes at different locations. Those who died in the strikes are Hafeez, 45, and Kulsoon, 40, a husband and wife, who were harvesting wheat in Basti Khokhran.
In Basti Kalhora, two minor brothers aged nine and seven died from a lightning strike. Another man died in Thal Hassan, and labourer Muhammad Hassan Mohana died while harvesting wheat in Chak 131-NP of Janpur.
Similar heart-wrenching incidents were reported from Bahawalpur, where lightning struck multiple locations, resulting in the death of Shaheena Bibi, 22, and injuries to Iqra Bibi, 25, and Karim Bakhsh, 70. All victims were working in the fields when the lightning struck.
In Yazman, a minor died when lightning struck Chak No 113-DNB. Darshan Ram’s body was handed over to his family after emergency medical aid by Rescue 1122. Furthermore, 12-year-old Abdul Majeed died in the Chak 108-DNB area of Cholistan while working in the fields with his father and uncle.
In Jatoi tehsil of Muzaffargarh district, a man, a baby girl, and a cow were killed, and two others were injured. Lightning struck Basti Allah Bakhsh, killing Mujahid Gadara and a cow, and Sultan area, resulting in the death of a child and injuries to two others.
