YouTube has introduced a new feature aimed at curbing misleading content on its platform, and drew inspiration from X’s (formerly Twitter) community notes.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the new feature will allow the users to add explanatory notes to the videos that contain false or confusing information.
The notes will be displayed below the videos after undergoing a review process.
The feature, which was announced by Google in June, is currently under testing phase and is available to a limited number of users. The users will be able to add helpful notes to videos in order to safeguard the viewers from misleading content.
If users find a video misleading or unclear, they can utilize this feature to provide additional context. The notes will be reviewed by other users, and if deemed helpful by a majority, they will be posted under the video.
YouTube will notify users when their notes have been published. Currently, this feature is being rolled out for mobile devices.
The users who have access to the feature will see an “Add Note” option beneath videos, where they can write and submit their notes. These notes must reference reliable sources and be clearly understandable.
Importantly, the identity of the note’s author will remain anonymous.
