ISLAMABAD – The Twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi brace for massive protest of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI, and amid confusion, several users shared updates on Friday school holiday due to road closures.

Ahead the so-called ‘do-or-die’ protest, social media posts circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp groups claimed that schools and colleges in the twin cities will remain closed on Friday.

Pakistan Observer debunks misleading claims by users as there has been no official notification confirming any such announcement about holidays in twin cities.

The claim further gained traction after post circulated online about holiday in Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU). However, authorities have clarified that no directive has been issued regarding a public holiday or closure of other educational institutions for tomorrow.

PTI Islamabad Protest

With security measures being heightened in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in anticipation of the protest, the twin cities have witnessed road closures and deployment of law enforcement agencies. The situation remains fluid, with additional restrictions expected in the coming days.

In light of this, parents, students, and the general public are advised to rely on official sources for accurate information about school schedules and public holidays.

Ahead of the protest on November 24, Rawalpindi imposed strict security measures, including placing containers on key roads and imposing Section 144, which bans gatherings of more than four people. Several locations, such as Fawara Chowk and Liaquat Road, have been blocked to prevent disruptions.

Over 4,500 police officers will be deployed across the city, with additional security at Adiala Jail and Adiala Road. This follows a similar situation in early November, when Section 144 was enforced during PTI’s rally in Swabi. Special security arrangements are in place to ensure peace and order in the garrison city.
