LAHORE – Labour Day used to be a public holiday in Pakistan and parts of world to honor the contributions of workers and their rights.
As May 1 approaches, Pakistanis are already curious to know whether Labor Day will be a public holiday this year, as it falls on mid-week (Wednesday).
Every year, Labor Day is listed as an off-day for this year, but the federal government has not officially announced this year’s. People are advised to wait for an official announcement.
Labour Day Holiday
The Cabinet Division circular for 2024 includes May 1st as a public holiday. The government will formally announce that all schools will be closed nationwide on this day.
In Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other regions, both private and public offices will also be closed. The State Bank of Pakistan is expected to declare May 1st a bank holiday as well.
On this day, schools and offices are usually closed, and if it is declared a public holiday, both private and public offices are expected to be closed. Additionally, the State Bank of Pakistan is likely to declare a bank holiday. International Labor Day, celebrated on May 1st worldwide, is a day to recognize the contributions of workers and advocate for their rights.
