In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the wife of illegally detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader, Ayaz Akbar, died in Srinagar after protracted illness.
The deceased, Rafeeqa Begum, was suffering from cancer for the last 8 years. She passed away on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Her funeral prayers were held, today, at her residence in Maloora HMT area of Srinagar.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions, hundreds of people including liberation leaders Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Mohammad Yasin Butt, Muhammad Ashraf Laya, Syed Zahoor Gilani and Abdul Ghani Butt participated in her funeral prayers.
Ayaz Akbar is facing illegal detention in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2017. The India’s infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Ayaz Akbar and dozens of Hurriyat leaders and activists including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Merajuddin Kalwal, Pir Saifullah, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Syed Shahid Yousuf, Syed Shakeel Yousuf and Zahoor Ahmad Watali on fake charges to silence democratic and freedom voice of Kashmiris.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Ayaz Akbar’s wife.
The APHC General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Ahmad, and other Hurriyat leaders including Khawaja Firdous, Omer Aadil Dar and Rauf Khan visited the residence of Ayaz Akbar and condoled the death of his wife with the bereaved family.
The spokesman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, on behalf of party Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, who has been languishing in Udhampur Jail in Jammu, and Convener of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat AJK-chapter, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, in a statement expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
Hurriyat leaders, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Abdul Ahad Parra, Farida Bahenji, Javaid Ahmad Mir, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Yasmeen Raja, Zamruda Habib, Ahmad Malik, Sameena Bano, Naseer-ul-Islam, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, Syed Aijaz Rehmani, Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and Mutahida Jihad Council Chairman, Syed Salahuddin in their meetings and statements condoled the death of Ayaz Akbar’s wife and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.—KMS
