Widespread monsoon rains predicated in Pakistan till July 31

ISLAMABAD – Widespread monsoon rains are predicted in Pakistan from July 28 to July 31 with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. They will likely penetrate central and southern parts from 29th July.

Under the influence of this weather system, widespread monsoon rains are predicted in the country till July 31 with occasional gaps.

Kashmir: Rains and gusty winds with few heavy falls are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) till July 31 with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rains and gusty winds with few heavy falls are likely in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from July 28 to July 31 with occasional gaps. Rain-wind/thundershowers are also likely in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lohdran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from July 29 to July 31 with occasional gaps.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls are predicted in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan from July 28 to July 31 with occasional gaps.

Balochistan: Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most districts of the province. Rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbella, Awaran, Panjgur, Ketch, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Shirani, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad and Jaffarabad from July 29 to July 31 with occasional gaps.

Sindh: Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most districts of the province. Rain-wind/thundershowers are likely in Mithi, Sanghar, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jaccoabad and Dadu on 29th & 30th July with occasional gaps.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan. However, rainfall activity is also likely in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar on the 28th & 29th of July with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bunner, Kurrum, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Kashmir from 28th to 30th July.

Heavy rain may cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Peshawar from 28th to 30th July. Landslides may disrupt traffic in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet period.

Downpours/windstorms and lightning may affect daily routines, and weak structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels during the period. Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast. Travellers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and manage their travelling according to weather conditions and avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.
