Governor’s rule in Sindh

PM Imran Khan aptly decided not to go by the emotional advice of Interior Minister, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, to impose Governor’s rule in Sindh. Decision of the PM not to impose Governor’s rule in Sindh is a wise one. Had the emotional advice of the Interior Minister to impose Governor’s rule in Sindh been taken seriously by the PM, it wouldn’t have augured well for the already profoundly volatile political situation in the country.

I am glad that the PM chose, and very rightly so, to follow the advice of the saner elements in his party, like Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the like, not to impose Governor’s rule in Sindh. I would sincerely suggest that better sense should prevail on all sides, and measures detrimental to the institution of democracy must be avoided at all costs.

Charter of economy

Over the decades, our economy has not been able to produce the desired results in terms of reducing poverty and unemployment from the country. Besides our successive federal governments have not been able to get country out of the menace of decades old foreign borrowing/aid, due to lack of clear and defined strategy. The production of our agricultural and industrial sectors has also not been up-to the mark due to various reasons and strategies adopted by successive governments. Various taxation policies in the country have also remained a source of criticism from many quarters.

In other words, all major political parties of our country are not on one page regarding shape of our economy. Looking at present state of affairs there is a greater need that all our major political parties (including party in power) sit together with good intent and sincerity, for adopting best economic model and strategy for the nation, to steer the country out of present economic crisis.

A Charter of economy should be signed by all major political parties in which broader issues of our economy should be presented in detail besides agreeing on strategy on how to work on short-term and long-term stability/recovery of our economy. This will give confidence to ruling party, whereby it will face least criticism from the opposition political parties, in the smooth running of its economic affairs. It will give stability to our economy besides giving it a great boost.

Delivering results

Since the Performance Report 2021 of Federal Ministries was released and top 10 achievers were recognized all hell was let lose on media. On one hand the government has been frequently and rightly criticized on the increasing mis-governance in public sector on the other when it tries to make it accountable they are again mocked. Watching the key analysts on TV making fun of the first assessment done ever of the governance was pathetic. Rather than appreciating the initiative, the senior anchors preferred an easy way of criticizing the outcome without reading or understanding the whole essence of the exercise.

In retrospect, as this was a pioneering exercise the approach of media anchors should have been to make recommendations for improving the process going forward. They lost the opportunity to use their intellect for appreciating and meaningfully contributing to improving the deteriorating governance of Pakistan. One key recommendation would be to completely revamp the committee of senior bureaucrats and make it independent comprising public and private sector governance experts both from within Pakistan and overseas. As this excellent process of assessing Ministries performance is expected to continue, it’s hoped that the government immediately addresses the million dollar question – how can the process be for, of and by the bureaucracy.

Beggar mafia

Developing countries have their issues always on steak. Poverty and overpopulation have been the biggest problem of any developing country but one who neglected these issues has led to serious problem. Poverty and overpopulation lead to begging. Unfortunately, begging is not just the cause of need nowadays instead it has become a mafia – Beggar Mafia. This mafia has spread to major populated cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

Criminals have their proper business and mafia through which they kidnap needy and poor people from underdeveloped areas and either threaten them to death or promise them to provide with needs or food by showing fake spark. Mafia uses most of the children of young ages, adults or old age people. They either physically disable them or addict them to drugs and leave these people on streets to beg. Now these brain washed and trained people beg and fed to their mafias and in return are provided with some basic needs.

Once I went to a petrol pump, a child of 7-8 years age, with some toys in hand came near me and asked me to buy them. But I rejected as I was of 20 and those toys wouldn’t be of my use. The child went aside and suddenly his master, who was observing him, called the child and thrashed on his face, screamed him and reminded him of the rules that not to present toys to adults but to children and pushed him aside. The man was of 50-60 age old apparently a part of mafia. This is the sad reality of our society. How can we provide to those in need without falling prey for mafia?

Kashmir files

The movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ has gained a lot of attention right from the day the trailer of the movie was launched. The movie on seeing it, gave me Goosebumps on seeing the plight of the indigenous sons and daughters of the soil at hands of bloodthirsty religious fanatics.

The movie also reflects the sheer failure of the state administration and the Union Government in protecting the life of its legitimate citizens. Every Indian citizen should watch this movie.

Women’s safety

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my feeling about women safety. When we turn the pages of a newspaper, we come across many headlines reporting cases of sexual assault, molestation, sexual harassment, rape, trafficking, ill treatment of women in houses, violence against women in remote areas etc. The crime comes amid heightened concerns about sexual violence in Pakistan.

It seems that criminals are no longer afraid of the law… We must have remedial or curative measures such as fast track courts, especially dedicated to deal only with these offences and crimes. These can be made responsible to clear the cases on day-to-day basis with fair trial as its core principle. The law should be strong enough so that no body could ever imagine of doing such things.

It is time the government undertakes drastic measures to put an end to crime against women. I would like to quote here that a country which does not respect women cannot become a developed one, therefore, I would like to request our Pakistani people please provide equal respect and security to women.
