LAHORE – Leg Spinner Usman Qadir has announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket.
He shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) and noted that his last appearance for the national team was in 2022.
In his announcement, Usman expressed gratitude for his journey in cricket, stating, “Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket. As I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude.”
He continued, “It has been an immense honor to represent my country. I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”
He reminisced about the memorable moments in his career, adding, “From unforgettable victories to the challenges we faced together, each moment has shaped my career and enriched my life. I’m deeply appreciative of the passionate fans who have always stood by me; your unwavering support has meant the world.”
As he looks toward the future, Usman shared his intention to honor his father’s legacy. “As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me. I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together. Thank you for everything.”

In May 2024, the 31-year-old criticized former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez for his exclusion from the national team. During an interview on a local YouTube channel, he claimed that former T20 captain Shaheen Afridi had assured him of a spot in the New Zealand series in January based on his domestic performance. Usman accused Hafeez of intervening against his selection, stating that this had a negative impact on his career.
Usman Qadir, the son of the late legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, has participated in 25 T20 Internationals and has one One Day International appearance, claiming a total of 29 wickets with an economy rate of 7.95.
