India has suffered another defeat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) , as India’s demand to remove the Kashmir issue from the agenda was rejected.
According to diplomatic sources, India’s demand to remove the Kashmir issue from the Security Council agenda was declared baseless at the United Nations.
India yesterday demanded an end to the Kashmir issue under the agenda item of the “India-Pakistan Question” from the agenda of the UN Security Council.
According to sources, declaring the Indian demand baseless, one member said that no state can change the agenda unilaterally.
It was stated in the meeting that the agenda has been formulated in accordance with the rules and regulations. It can only be changed by consensus of the 15-member council.
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Saturday said that Kashmir issue will remain on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council until Kashmiris are granted their inherent right to self-determination through a free impartial plebiscite.
In his tweets, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that
Jammu and Kashmir dispute is one of the oldest items on the UNSC agenda. “India-Pakistan Question” is one of the oldest items on UNSC agenda. The question remains on the agenda since India has never implemented UNSC Resolutions on J&K dispute. He said that India continues to deny Kashmiris’ inalienable right to self-determination enshrined in UNSC resolutions.
