The Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) elections, the United Business Group (UBG) and BMPP joint candidates won 8 seats including President, Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents in the FPCCI elections. The current ruling group could win one vice president’s seat.
The UBG leaders termed the group’s election victory as the hard work of SM Tanveer, Zubair Tufail and Iftekhar Ali Malik. Trolling continued throughout the day in the elections of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the largest trade body of the country. Polling had to be halted several times in the election process, with the two groups accusing each other of rigging and alleged assault. During the voting process, the UBG group accused Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali of using influence in the election process. Whereas the vigilance panel also accused the DGTO of unilaterally supporting the UBG.
It was reported that the KP Governor sat in the polling hall from the beginning to the end of the polling. Provincial minister Punjab SM Tanvir, patron-in-chief of UBG and leader of Pakistan’s business community remained active. Polling time has been extended by one-and-a-half hours till 7:00 pm due to frequent suspensions during the polling process. Heavy contingent of Rangers Sindh and the police was stationed at the federation house on Saturday. It is pertinent to mention here that the UBG has won the annual elections for 2024-2025 after four years. Atif Ikram Sheikh of UBG was elected president by defeating BMP candidate, while Saqib Fayyaz Magoon won the post of Senior Vice President by defeating Haji Ghani Usman.
Three candidates of UBG Abdul Momin Khan (Sindh), Ashfaq Ahmed (Federal Area) and Zain Iftikhar from Punjab were elected for five vice-president seats of chamber class in the federation, while two candidates of BMP Aoun Ali Syed (KPK) and Nasir Khan (Balochistan) were elected.
