The Turkish central government’s gross debt stock totaled 6.7 trillion liras ($227.4 billion) at the end of 2023, according to official figures released on Monday.
The debt stock surged 67% from the prior year, the Treasury and Finance Ministry data showed.
Some 35.8% of the figure is denominated in liras, while the rest is in foreign currency.
While 3.2 trillion liras ($108.6 billion) of the debt was domestic, some 3.5 trillion liras ($118.9 billion) was external as of the end of last year.
The gross debt stock includes the outstanding debt of public bodies, the Turkish Central Bank, private companies, and households.—AA
