LAHORE – Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Naib Emir Peer Zaheer-ul-Hassan Shah on Monday was booked over charges of threatening Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.
Hammad Hussain, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Qilla Gujjar Sindh Police Station, lodged complaint against the TLP vice-president.
According to the reports, Zaheer-ur-Hassan Shah had issued Fatwa to kill Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and announced a bounty of Rs10m in this regard. He had issued fatwa over a verdict penned down by the top judge.
In the FIR, the charges include violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act, incitement of religious hatred, spreading disorder, pressuring the judiciary, threatening the top judiciary, interfering in government affairs and obstructing the legal duties.
Peer Zaheer Hassan Shah, according to the FIR, incited hatred against the higher judiciary during a protest outside the press club. The TLP vice president announced a reward of 10 million rupees for anyone who would bring the head of Justice Faez Isa.
The police also booked 1500 TLP workers.
Govt condemns threats to CJP Isa, announces stern action
Earlier in the day, Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Iqbal strongly condemned threats to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, saying that the state would take stern action against such trends.
Both the leaders also announced to take strict action against those who are running social media campaign against CJP Isa.
“Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa is being targeted for a long time,” said Defence Minister Khawaja Asif while addressing a joint press conference along with Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad.
He said, “the state will not allow it anyone,”.
Asif said, “Khatam-e-Nabuwat is part of our faith. But the state cannot allow anyone to issue fatwas to murder anyone,”.
The Defence minister said that the public is being provoked on the social media to commit murders. He urged the scholars and clerics to play their role to ensure positive image of Islam.
“The conspiracy against CJP Isa cannot be allowed. It is like an attempt to silence a voice that speaks for the truth,” he said.
Ahsan Iqbal said that CJP Isa is head of the judiciary—and any fatwa against him is highly condemnable. He also announced legal action against those who issued fatwa for the murder of CJP Isa.
“Any such statement that if anyone beheads CJP Isa he will be awarded Rs10m is very unfortunate and highly condemnable,” said Ahsan Iqbal.
He said that they did not need certificate from anyone for their faith.
Ahsan Iqbal said that there is a constitution and courts in Pakistan and nobody has right to announce any such verdict to kill anyone.
“If the scholars are allowed to do so then there will be bloodshed everywhere,” said the minister. The baseless allegation, he said, could not be permitted.
He said that terrorism and suicide bombing has nothing to do with Islam. He urged on the unity among the Muslims. He referred to Gaza situation, saying that the Muslims are being killed there, so they needed unity at this time.
“They always hold sit-ins in the name of religion for the sake of politics in the country,” said Ahsan Iqbal while referring to recent Faizabad protest.
