LAHORE – Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Hussain Rizvi was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore, in the latest development following a secretive deal between the party and the government.
His release comes a day before the first death anniversary of his father Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the founder of TLP.
A spokesperson of the religio-political party confirmed the development, adding that Saad Rizvi had reached Rehmatul Lil Alameen Mosque, located near Yateem Khanna Chowk in Lahore, after his release.
The development comes after the government removed the name of the TLP chief from the fourth schedule, withdrew a reference filed in the Supreme Court’s federal review board regarding his detention and de-proscribed his party.
The Punjab Home Department issued a notification on November 11 stating: “The provincial cabinet has considered the request of the organisation and in view of the assurance and commitment by the organisation, is of the opinion that the said organisation shall abide by the Constitution and laws of the country and therefore, keeping in view the larger national interest and long term perspective to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future, the government of Punjab has proposed to the federal government to consider revoking of the proscription of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan,” read the Interior Ministry notification.
Rizvi was placed on the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 in April this year after he was arrested by authorities during the same year.
On Nov 8, TLP announced to end its wit-in protest being staged in a ground of Wazirabad after the government implemented 50 percent of their demands mentioned in the secret agreement.
