Thousands turn out for Iran President Ebrahim Raisi funeral in Tabriz

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi along with country’s foreign minister and six other people were killed in helicopter crash while traveling near the Azerbaijan border and Iranian government and people are holding mass processions for the last rites of late President.

Funeral ceremonies started in northwestern Iran today for as several nations including Pakistan are observing day of mourning for the loss.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared five days of mourning for the deceased leaders. The funeral procession in Tabriz was attended by tens of thousands holding pictures of late President and other members, marked the beginning of official ceremonies to honor him.

The first funeral event in Tabriz was followed by a procession to the holy city of Qom. Wednesday will be a public holiday for Raisi’s funeral in Tehran, with expected attendance by high-ranking foreign dignitaries.
Some other funeral ceremonies will be held in two other cities before Raisi is laid to rest in Mashhad on Friday. The news of Raisi’s death led to widespread mourning in Iran on Monday, with an outpouring of condolences.
