Thalassemia Care Centre at Ayub Teaching Complex Hospital which is first ever in the Public Sector Hospital was inaugurated by the Prof Dr.Umar Farooq, Dean of Ayub Medical College Abbottabad here on Monday.

Prof Dr. Umar Farooq while addressing at the occasion said that a collective and joint efforts are needed by the all segment of society to create awareness among general public about the disease as yearly due to ignorance, hundreds and thousands new patients are reported in Thalassemia which can be averted.

The precautionary measures if taken timely can save lives of the newly born kids for which he asked the media, Ulema, NGO”s and parents to follow the simple protocol of the disease which needs screening before marriage and to avoid the inter family marriages.

Dean further told that registration process of the thalassemia patients are started and ATH administration will make all out efforts to get the arrangements of blood and other allied equipment’s used for the blood transfusion.

He added that Pakistan Bait ul mal and some of philanthropists had offered to make handsome donation for the Care Centre and will hold blood donation camps on regular basis.
