T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan overpower Bangladesh to reach semis

Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by eight runs (DLS) in the last Super Eights stage Group 1 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Kingstown to qualify for the semi-finals for the first time.

Chasing a revised target of 114-run in 19 overs due to rain interruptions, Bangladesh were bowled out at 105 in 17.5 overs. With the exception of opener Litton Das (54) who carried the bat, Bangladesh batters who no answer to the disciplined Afghanistan bowling.

Towhid Hridoy made 14 and Soumya Sarkar scored 10 runs. Player of the match Naveen-ul-Haq and skipper Rashid Khan bagged four wickets each while Faalhaq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib had one each.

Earlier, Afghanistan scored 115/5 in the allocated 20 overs. Opener Rehmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer with 43 runs followed by Rashid khan who made 19. Ibrahim Zadran scored 18 and Azmatullah Omarzai 10 runs. Rishad Hossain bagged three wickets while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman had one each.
