Concerned about the safety of residents amid rising temperatures and increased water levels, the district administration of Attock has implemented Section 144, effectively prohibiting swimming and bathing activities in proximity to water channels. The decision, aimed at averting potential casualties, comes in response to the surge in public gatherings at rivers, canals, streams, and small dams for recreational purposes.
As temperatures soar, the allure of water bodies as a respite from the heat has drawn crowds to these locations, raising concerns over public safety. With water levels already substantially elevated, authorities have acted swiftly to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
A press release issued by the district information office announced the immediate enforcement of the ban, which will remain effective for a period of 90 days. Stringent measures will be implemented to deter violations, with strict actions promised against individuals found flouting the directive.
Under the powers conferred by Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898, swimming activities are explicitly prohibited in rivers, nullahs, streams, and tributaries across the district. The order, enacted with immediate effect, underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public well-being during this period of heightened risk.
