Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting where effective measures were approved. District administration and traffic police were instructed to work collaboratively to improve the city’s traffic flow. The meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, Additional Commissioner Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Secretary of Provincial Transport Authority, Sindh Building Control Authority, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, town administrations, cantonment boards, and other relevant officials.
Deputy commissioners participated via video link. DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema provided a detailed briefing, highlighting that Karachi has 201 charged parking sites, with 130 located on busy roads, causing significant disruption to traffic flow. Illegal parking and double and triple parking at these sites have further exacerbated the problem.
It was decided that strict enforcement of parking regulations would be implemented, and contractors violating rules would have their permits revoked. Local government bodies were directed to ensure the immediate regulation of parking systems and prevent double and triple parking. Additionally, complaints about intercity buses operating within the city were addressed.
The Secretary of the Transport Authority was instructed to stop these operations immediately. Offices of intercity bus companies located within city limits were ordered to close their ticket counters, with assistance from district administrations and traffic police. Commissioner Karachi emphasized that all institutions must actively address traffic challenges and take concrete steps to facilitate the public.
