ON Kashmir Solidarity Day observed on Saturday, the Pakistani nation once again demonstrated abiding warmth of love and brotherhood for the oppressed Kashmiris, which in fact is an unpalatable truth for India.
Rallies and different events were organised in every nook and corner of the country to convey a clear message that Pakistan stands firmly with people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their legitimate struggle for right to self-determination.
This affection is not one sided rather mutual as numerous images of young lifeless Kashmiris, wrapped in Pakistani flags, being lowered into graves by their family members keep surfacing every now and then which illustrate their deep rooted feelings and sentiments for Pakistan.
While observing Kashmir Solidarity Day has a relevance that Pakistan has not stepped back an inch from its stated position on the lingering dispute, the dire situation in IIOJK also warrants concrete actions.
PTI government must adopt a firm and concrete strategy to alleviate sufferings of the oppressed Kashmiris and then help in realisation of their right to self-determination.
The fact of matter is that India has broken all records of brutalities in the occupied territory.
Ever since illegal and unilateral steps of 5th August 2019, the valley has been turned into an open prison where young Kashmiris are being martyred in fake encounters whilst the whole Kashmiri leadership has been detained.
Israeli tactics are being emulated by the Modi regime to change the demographic structure of the occupied territory, in total contravention of international laws including the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
In the backdrop of this, time has come to make our solidarity with Kashmiris more meaningful — one that does not remain confine to mere verbal speeches and statements.
Actions should speak louder than words. As all political parties have a united stance on this matter, they should sit together to frame a practical strategy to effectively project the plight of Kashmiri people at international level.
The International Russell Tribunal on Kashmir, held in December 2021 in Sarajevo, voicing concerns over restrictions on fundamental freedoms and gross human rights violations, had concluded that these crimes seem to meet the definition of genocide.
If a tiny African country like Gambia can move international court of justice against the genocide of Rohingya Muslims, we should also look into such legal option for Kashmiri people keeping in view the findings of International Russell Tribunal.
Modi and his accomplices should be dragged into the ICJ for serious crimes against humanity they continue to commit in IIOJK.
There is also need to closely engage and mobilise Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora as part of communication strategy to apprise especially those in the West and Gulf countries as to what kind of ruthless persecution campaign has been leashed by occupying Indian forces against innocent and armless Kashmiri people.
The more we focus on predicament of oppressed Kashmiri people, the more these governments will come under pressure from their people to move towards resolution of this dispute.
Pakistan is hosting the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers next month, which should also come up with a loud and clear message in support of Kashmiri people rising above mere issuing condemnation resolutions.
While Pakistan has already cut off trade and economic relations with India, other members of the OIC should also follow the suit till India does not correct its course and end its brutal campaign in occupied territory.
The Kashmiri people are looking towards the Muslim world to fulfil its responsibility, rising above political and economic expediency, they must demonstrate their moral responsibility towards Kashmiris and come forward for their rescue.
The teachings of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) should be a guide for us who stated that “the believers are just like one body.
When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.” The Kashmiris are suffering and the Muslim world must wake up.
