Smith meets Dr. Aafia in U.S. prison, calls for clemency approval

Renowned U.S. attorney Clive Stafford Smith met with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui for four hours at FMC Carswell Prison. Following the meeting, Smith shared that Dr. Aafia remains steadfast and resilient in the face of her circumstances. She expressed her gratitude to supporters worldwide, including Imam Omar Suleiman, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Senator Talha Mahmood, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), and members of the Aafia Movement, for their unwavering support.

Clive Smith highlighted Dr. Aafia’s hope that U.S. President Joe Biden will approve her clemency petition before leaving office.

He also emphasized the contributions of American citizens advocating for her release. According to Aafia Movement spokesperson Muhammad Ayub, a peaceful protest organized by Friends of Aafia will be held outside Karachi Press Club on Monday, January 20, at 4:00 PM.
