The Sindh Human Rights Commission, is alarmed at the current reports regarding harassment intimidation and vindictive action against the Human Rights Activists across the province. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan is already under strong watch by international agencies who are time and again stressing over the authorities the take action for the protection of Human Rights Activists from the prevailing insecurities but on contrary, harassment of the Human Rights Activists in the province have increased a great deal. The Commission is considerably alarmed at harassment of Human Rights activists across Sindh Province under the cover of blasphemy. Specially, in the case of Dr. Arfana Mallah (Professor at University of Sindh and Human Rights Activist) wherein reportedly police is being pressurized to lodge FIR against Prof. Mallah under blasphemy. Although, the police has shown restrain in loading FIR against Prof. Mallah, but Commission finds this trend of settling ideological rivalries under the cover of blasphemy very dangerous for peace and security of the province. The Commission therefore, urges the authorities and all the stakeholder, not to use the religious card to counter each other’s ideological difference, but rather, the Commission stresses over adopting the path of dialogue and discourse in the interest peace and stability, justice and preserving pro- rights and humanitarian caricature of the province of Sindh.
