Sindh Food Department and World Food Program sign MoU

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed here at a local hotel between the Sindh Food Department and World Food Program.

On this occasion Sindh Food Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Special Assistance to CM Sindh on Investment Board and Public Private Partnership Projects Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar and Country Director World Food Program UNWFP Chris Key and others were also present. Secretary food Sindh Raja Khurram Umer Shazad and Country Director World Food Program UNWFP Chris Key signed on MoU, according to information by Info Dept Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion Sindh Food Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that SFD is closely working with WFP in strengthening food systems in Sindh and in collaboration with WFP we are improving our wheat supply chain in particular conditions of storage infrastructure. He added,’ SFD appreciate support of WFP in strengthening food systems

We are ready to work to extend this technical support in other areas of overall food systems strengthening.  Chawla said that Sindh province is Pakistan second largest wheat producing region with annual production of 4.043 million ton of wheat in 2020-21

SFD maintains supply of over 1.2 million tons of wheat in 1457 wheat storage units in Sindh. It is to mention here that under this project SFD will construct silos with a total capacity of 1.085 million MT through WFP’s technical assistance under PPP mode. WFP will provide financial assistance of 4 lac USD.
