Sindh Excise collects Rs 12.17b of taxes in two months

Provincial Minister of Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that the Excise Department of Sindh has received a total tax of Rs. 12172.986 million in various taxes in July / August during current financial year. He said this while presiding over a meeting held in his office. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director Generals Shabir Ahmed Sheikh and Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other officers.
Giving the briefing to the meeting, Director General Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Sheikh said that Rs. 1216.749 million was received in terms of motor vehicle tax, Rs. 9064.656 million in terms of infrastructure cess and Rs.126.778 million in Professional Tax. He further said that Rs. 9.514 million was collected in terms of Cotton fees, Rs. 800.683 million in property tax and Rs.27.004 in Entertainment Duty. Addressing the meeting, Minister of Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla expressed his satisfaction over the overall tax collection situation and said that a road checking campaign for collecting taxes from tax-defaulting vehicles would be started soon.
The campaign would, however, be widely publicized before launching so that owners of the tax defaulting vehicles can submit their due taxes on time. Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla also advised the owners of the tax defaulting vehicles to deposit their taxes immediately to avoid any unpleasant situation. Minister for Excise Sindh Mukesh Kumar Chawla instructed the officers to achieve their targets while speeding up the tax collection campaign. He warned officers that departmental action would be taken against officers who did not meet the targets.
