The National Textile University (NTU) Karachi Campus inaugurated its new campus and advanced technology lab in a ceremony attended by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The event also featured key dignitaries, including HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Federal Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, and Veqar ul Islam, CEO of Jaffer Business Systems (JBS). Dr. Siddiqui emphasized the critical need for Pakistan to embrace technological advancements, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), to remain competitive in the global market.

“The world is rapidly evolving from the industrial era to an IT-driven age. Nations that fail to adapt to this transformation will be left behind,” he stated. Citing examples from neighboring countries like China, he underscored how technological innovation has transformed economies and created job opportunities. Dr. Siddiqui also highlighted the importance of education and academia in shaping Pakistan’s future, linking Karachi’s development to the nation’s progress. He committed to expanding educational initiatives and integrating technology into academic curricula to drive economic growth.

During his visit, the minister interacted with students and faculty, commending the new tech lab as a significant step towards preparing students for future challenges. He also addressed the cotton industry’s ongoing difficulties, suggesting that modern technology could offer sustainable solutions. Federal Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani stressed the strategic role of the new tech lab in equipping students with skills to thrive in a technology-driven world.

He announced the federal government’s plan to invest in the Higher Education Commission (HEC), including establishing ten state-of-the-art laboratories in Karachi.
