The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) on Tuesday designated Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar as the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, with MoinRiazQureshi appointed as his deputy. SIC chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza announced the appointments. Expressing concern over the situation, Sahibzada Hamid Raza stated that MianAslamIqbal, who was previously nominated as the opposition leader in Punjab, was being prevented from taking his oath as a member of the assembly.
“In light of this situation, Ahmed Khan Bhachar has been temporarily appointed as the Opposition Leader, based on instructions received from PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, in consultation with MianAslamIqbal,” Sahibzada Hamid Raza explained.
He further clarified that MianAslamIqbal would assume the position of opposition leader once he takes his oath. Senior PTI leader MianAslamIqbal suggested the party nominate an alternative opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly.
