RAWALPINDI – Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the chief of Awami Muslim League (AML), was arrested from outside a courtroom after his bail was rejected in a case related to the May 9 riots here on Tuesday.
It has been reported that Rashid has been accused of vandalism at the Metro bus station on Sixth Road, Rawalpindi. He is being shifted to the New Town Police Station.
In a separate incident, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi granted bail to the senior politician and other suspects in the GHQ attack case, which was registered against them at the A R Bazaar police station.

The court adjourned the hearing of the riots-related cases till January 25.
Rahid’s lawyer, Abdul Razzaq Khan, told media that his client’s bail was granted in all 13 cases related to the May 9 riots. The AML chief will be produced before the court tomorrow for judicial or physical remand.
However, the court granted bail to the senior politician and other accused in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case. The case had been lodged at the A R Bazaar Police Station.
