Sindh Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon has called on the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to reevaluate their situation, accusing the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of neglecting the region’s employment needs. Despite being in power for three terms, Memon asserted that PTI has failed to provide adequate job opportunities, leading to an exodus of workers seeking employment elsewhere. He criticized PTI’s founder for being driven solely by personal gain, rather than loyalty to the party, the country, or its people. Memon’s comments came during a meeting with a delegation of journalists from KPK who were visiting Karachi.
The journalists were welcomed to the Sindh Senior Minister’s office, where Memon expressed his warm hospitality and shared his concerns about PTI’s governance. In the meeting, Memon compared the current visit of the KPK journalists with a recent visit from Lahore-based journalists, both aimed at assessing Sindh’s development projects. He argued that media narratives often distort reality, spreading misinformation and creating an artificial image of the Sindh government. He encouraged the visiting journalists to judge the province’s development work for themselves, emphasizing that they would witness what he described as substantial progress. Memon also addressed the energy crisis currently facing Pakistan, advocating for Tharparkar’s coal reserves as the key to resolving the issue. He explained that work on the Shaheed Bibi Thar Coal Project had initially started during his government’s tenure but was halted when they were ousted from power. However, in 2008, under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, the project was revived to honor the vision of the late Benazir Bhutto, often referred to as Shaheed Bibi.
He underscored that the Thar Coal project could play a crucial role in addressing Pakistan’s energy challenges, stressing that a continuation of efforts on this front is vital for the country’s future energy security. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon stated that Thar Coal will resolve Pakistan’s long-term energy crisis. Currently, more than 3,500 MW of electricity is being generated from Thar Coal, which serves as the lifeblood of Pakistan’s economy. The Sindh government has invested $2 billion in the Thar Coal project. He said that the Sindh government is providing valuable services in the healthcare sector. Millions of people are receiving free treatment at the NICVD, benefiting not only residents of Pakistan but also international patients.
The CyberKnife technology at the NICVD is serving patients from countries like Afghanistan and Iran. In addition, Gambat Hospital offers free liver transplants, and the Sindh government provides a grant of five billion rupees to Indus Hospital. In Sindh, no health or identity card is required for treatment—hospitals serve everyone, from all across Pakistan. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon stated that the Government of Sindh launched the EV Bus and Pink Bus services for women, marking the first time such initiatives have been introduced in Pakistan’s history.
Providing safe and convenient travel facilities for women is a key part of the Sindh government’s vision. He further said that while floods affected the entire country, it is only the Sindh government, under the leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party that is building homes for the flood victims.
Following the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, 2.1 million houses are being constructed, and Sindh’s housing project is receiving recognition and awards. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon announced that the Sindh government has initiated a solarization system to address the energy crisis. Solar systems will be provided to 200,000 families. Additionally, the wind power plant is a major project of the Sindh government, and there are plans to build a solar park as well. He expressed a desire for journalists from across the country to visit Sindh and review the ongoing projects.
He emphasized that public service should not involve spreading hatred, bigotry, or causing divisions. The politics of hatred and prejudice must be replaced with genuine public service. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon stated that work on the K4 project is progressing, and the long-standing water problem in Karachi is set to be resolved soon. During the three years of the PTI government, the K4 plan faced numerous challenges.
The population of Karachi is continuously increasing, with millions of people moving to the city daily in search of employment. He added that Karachi bears the burden of the entire country, leading to numerous problems.
The city’s population growth and urban sprawl exacerbate these issues, and Karachi is not receiving the equitable share it deserves from the federal government. Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon stated that the CEC of the Pakistan Peoples Party had declared immediately after the elections that they were ready to negotiate with everyone. However, the PTI refused to engage in negotiations with the PPP.
