A spell of severe cold continuing in Northern Areas, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan, Meteorological Department said on Monday. Northern Balochistan and most of the northern areas and central parts of the country experienced very cold weather with fog and smog in plains of Punjab.
Poor visibility caused disruption of vehicular traffic at various sections of the motorway. The minimum temperature in Karachi dropped to nine degree Celsius last night.
In the severe cold weather in Northern Areas, the mercury dropped to minus-14 in Skardu and minus-10 in Astore. Minimum temperatures went down to minus-nine at Gupis, minus-eight at Gilgit, minus-six in Kalam, Quetta, Dir and Hunza, while minus-five at Malam Jabba, according to the Met Office.
Yesterday the mercury dropped to -1°C Celsius in Islamabad, Pakistan Meteorological Department said in its weather report. The air pollution has hit hard Punjab especially Lahore, which remained on the top of the list of most polluted cities of the world.
Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Multan and scores of other cities in Punjab also facing the issue of bad air quality in winter despite scores of administrative actions taken by the authorities to overcome the pollution—INP
