NEW YORK – US President Joe Biden revealed that Saudi Arabia is ready to recognise Israel as a state as he spelled out the measures being taken to defuse ongoing tension in Gaza.
During an interview with late-night comedian Seth Meyers, US President Joe Biden said that Israel “would not engage in activities” during Ramadan, in order to secure the release of hostages.
Biden also said that Saudi Arabia is ‘ready to recognise Israel,’ and he has been working with several other Arab countries, including Egyp, towards recognising Israel, as well.
He added: “I get criticised for having said a long time ago, you need not be a Jew to be a Zionist. I’m a Zionist.” Biden has repeated this statement throughout his career to reaffirm his support for Israel.
The health ministry in Gaza said Tuesday that at least 29,878 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory during the Israeli bombardment.
The toll includes at least 96 deaths in the past 24 hours, while 70,215 people have been wounded since the conflict began on October 7, a ministry statement said.
