In India illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party President, Altaf Bukhari, has said statehood was the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir that should be re-stored soon.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Altaf Bukhari talking to reporters in Srinagar also batted for early assembly elections in the occupied terri-tory.
“We want statehood to be restored soon as it is our identity. However, it is also important that the elections should also take place soon.
There should not be sloganeering only that the polls are going to take place. People at the grassroots are facing diffi-culties and it is our duty to provide them grassroots democracy,” he said.
Altaf Bukhari said his party believes that Arti-cles 370 and 35-A are people’s basic rights and ex-pressed hope that the Indian Supreme Court – which is hearing the petitions against the Indian govern-ment’s decision – will restore it. —INP
