Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Wednesday raised questions over registration of case against murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif on a complaint by a policeman instead of his relative.

Taking to Twitter, the former interior minister said the case was registered after 44 days of assassination of Mr Sharif, who was murdered by Kenyan police in a case of “mistaken identity” near Nairobi in October last.

A day earlier, police registered the case on the orders of the Supreme Court on the complaint of SHO Rasheed Ahmed.

FIR was lodged after 44 days of his assassination while bypassing his mother as complaint in the case, the AML chairman wrote.

He also took aim at the coalition government for not announcing fresh elections in the country, stating that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman unable to sense it that Pakistan needs political stability.

Predicting early elections, he urged PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to take a decision to return to Pakistan.

The former minister also raised questions over import of wheat and crude oil from Russia. Earlier this week, State Minister for Petroleum Musaddik Malik revealed Moscow had agreed to provide crude oil and other petroleum products at discounted rates.INP
