ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s capital city saw disturbing turn of events when twin cities were paralyzed by supporters of Imran Khan. Amid these actions, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter from Mandi Bahauddin Tahir Abbas Tarar was assaulted by armed forces and was thrown by a high rising container.
After the alleged assault, Tahir’s family decried his abduction as he survived a fall but sustained severe injuries, including broken arms. His brother said Tahir was moved to hospital in critical condition but his whereabouts remain unknown in recent days.
The abduction of his family members sparked fears that the authorities are resorting to coercion in an effort to suppress statements that would support the government’s narrative. Locals and human rights groups also expressed grave concerns over highhandedness to muzzle dissent.
Tahir’s family is also reportedly facing harassment, with father and other relatives detained by authorities. A video shared on social media shows his brother calling for his release.
The incident, which sparked outrage after a video of Tahir’s fall went viral, initially led to fears about his death. Later, a pictures surfaced online confirming that Tahir was alive but injured, with his hands heavily bandaged.
Info Minister says PTI workers was filming TikTok, not praying at container
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar turned down Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s claims that a man seen in a viral video being pushed off a container at D-Chowk was praying before the incident. He clarified that the man, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin, was not engaged in prayer, but was filming a TikTok video.
Tarar said the individual only suffered an injury to his hand and is alive, contrary to PTI’s claims of a fatality. He also reiterated that the government would not allow violent protests and praised the leadership’s actions in addressing the nation’s economic challenges, emphasizing a decisive approach rather than relying on complaints.
