ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced its reserved verdict on petition filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) verdict, taking back “bat” as PTI’s electoral symbol.
A senior bench, including Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali, announced the case, approving Election Commission’s plea.
The court reserved verdict after conclusion of legal arguments from both sides. The verdict was slated to be announced at 9:30pm, but was delayed till 11:30pm.
Chief Justice Isa said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf failed to conduct intra-party election as per the constitution. The detailed judgement will be release later.
During Saturday’s hearing, PTI counsels Hamid Ali Khan and Ali Zafar presented hours-long arguments before the court. Chief Justice remarked that members of every political party hold the right to cast their vote.
Election commission earlier maintained that PTI had not organised polls as per Constitution and took away its electoral symbol.
This is a developing story, and will be updated shortly…
