RAWALPINDI – Beleaguered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has responded to the statements made by the Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Babar Iftikhar, about the 2014 sit-in.
In his key press conference, Maj Gen Sharif said the Army has no objection to a judicial inquiry into the May 9 riots, but if a commission is formed, it should thoroughly investigate the 2014 sit-in.
Army spokesperson said there will be no dialogue with any political leader or group that attacks its own army or spreads propaganda against it. He emphasized that dialogue is for political parties, not institutions and that there can be no talks with anarchist groups unless they sincerely apologize, abandon hate politics, and engage in constructive politics.
PTI responds to DG ISPR
After the closely watched press conference of ISPR DG, Imran Khan’s party expressed willingness to have 2014 sit-in investigated, but they have set a condition that the judges conducting the inquiry must be assured that their families will be safe and their privacy respected.
Former ruling party further raised questions whether the demand for a judicial commission is a genuine institutional need or a narrative to favor the PML-N. PTI also lamneted DG ISPR for labeling them as miscreants despite their electoral success, calling it ‘arrogance’.
